What a GREAT IDEA

Sadly I was away from home on Yorkshire Day so am just back to get reconnected in what you are all up to.

We went to Filey for the Yorkshire Day Celebrations - run jointly by The Yorkshire Society and Filey Town Council.

I will put a detailed report on later with some pictures.

I dont know if the reason for the awful weather on August 1st was that Dickie Bird [ The former cricket umpire ] was the Guest of Honour and that someone from Lancshire wanted to invoke ' Rain Stopped Play ' !!

But just as we all got out of the coaches to walk across the Ravine Bridge to the Church there was a real downpour, soaking many and creating a pool of water on the bridge.

Anyhow from a Flooded Yorkshire - very bad around Pickering - a late message of Greetings to you all.

Having read Abby's message re Humberside I can confirm this NO LONGER EXISTS - but will post a very good poem I read when over for the day in The EAST RIDING.

Great site, love reading about expats insights into life past present and future. It is like being in a room of celebrities, every one of them has something interestig to say about their lives, their thoughts, their dreams. Having been brought up in Manchester and a resident of London most of my adult life, I now find from researching my family tree that I have deep roots in North Yorkshire, and, what's more, in a most beautiful place - Wensleydale. My great great grandfather farmed at Low Thoresby Farm, just below Castle Bolton, near Carperby and Redmire. His name was John Waller, and he was there at least until 1901. I have visited the area and the farm, which is still there, and am absolutely amazed at the beauty of the surroundings. I have a really deep, heartfelt feeling for this part of Yorkshire now. Hi, I was just surfing the net and came across your web site. I have been interested in Leeds ever since my great, great Aunt Grace came to visit me in St. Augustine, Florida U.S.A. Although my Grandmother was actually born in Chorley, her family was from Leeds. Her name was Doris Warburton, and she came to this country in about 1914. Her father was Edwin Warburton, and had many siblings. Grace was the baby, but I don't know what her married name is. I think that she owned a greed grocery. Many of them migrated to Austrailia. Came across your site whilst looking for the Midgley family from Luddenden,where my father came from. If there is anyone there who remembers him, would love to chat, as I never knew him. Hi, what a beautiful site. Wonder if you could help me look for a christian man who called himself "deadlevel" on a website called www.loveandseek.com. He is from Mirfield West Yorkshire. I went on the site to look for a christian friend and I know that he viewed me at least 7 times, but unfortunately I could not view or read any messages sent to me in South Africa due to the fact that this website did not accept Visa or Mastercard payments from South Africa, thus making it impossible for me to reply to people who wanted to speak to me.
